CO₂ Refrigeration System Remodeling – Leclerc Bayonne Nord
Overview
Remodeling works have started on the refrigeration system of the Leclerc Bayonne Nord store in France. The project involves replacing existing R404A-based systems with a new CO₂ refrigeration installation. The transition introduces a natural refrigerant solution aligned with environmental requirements.

The Challenge
The existing refrigeration system operated with R404A, a synthetic refrigerant with high global warming potential. The project required replacing the system while ensuring continuity of operations and improving environmental performance.
The Solution
The new installation consists of an ELBA 6+2+4 CO₂ booster refrigeration system using a natural refrigerant with GWP = 1. The system includes a gas cooler rated at 130 bar and a de-superheater. It is equipped with both liquid and vapor ejectors to improve system performance.

Results & Impact
The project enables the transition from a high-GWP synthetic refrigerant to a natural refrigerant solution. It supports the reduction of environmental impact in commercial refrigeration applications.
Technical Data
- Refrigerant: CO₂ (GWP = 1)
- System type: CO₂ booster (ELBA 6+2+4)
- Gas cooler: 130 bar
