Indirect System Refrigeration
The concept of an indirect system is as follows: as the R290 refrigerant is flammable, it is not brought inside the building but remains confined to the outdoor unit, where it carries out the refrigeration cycle.
The transfer of cooling (and heating) to the loads takes place via intermediate transfer fluids: water or brine down to -15°C for medium-temperature loads, and CO₂ down to -45°C for low-temperature loads such as freezing tunnels and evaporators.
The main advantage is safety: by keeping the propane outside with a low charge per circuit, the risk of gas build-up in indoor spaces is eliminated and no dedicated plant room is required.
This combines two natural refrigerants with an extremely low GWP whilst maintaining efficiency, but without the risks associated with the flammability of propane brought directly into the building.
IDEAL APPLICATIONS:
- Ideal for food storage and food processing facilities up to 1 MW
- Suitable for new installations and replacement of existing HFC/HFO chillers
- With 4- pipe, a flexible solution when heating loads are much higher than cooling loads
